1) What routes are available and which are finished? How far through are you, and which route is coming next?

Currently, there are 4 main routes planned for Sileo, as well as more than a dozen (and counting!) smaller side routes that will populate a mode called 'Tales from Woodcrest'. These tales will be developed from time to time as voted by our supporters on Patreon and will eventually become our primary focus once the 1.0 version of Sileo has been released.

These four main routes are as follows.

• Diego's Route - Completed
• Tai's Route - Completed
• Lukas' Route - Not Yet Started
• Poly Route (Axel, Dom & Russell) - In Development (Day 6/20)

We're also working on...

• Intro Route Remake (Day 1 Completed, Days 2+ In Development)

As of late 2022, in response to burnout and other developmental factors, we're prioritizing content that inspires us and that we feel best equipped to create and will be releasing updates as soon as they're ready. The frequency of this will vary, however multiple smaller content updates in the span of a single month is entirely feasible, as is slightly longer delays followed by more significant releases.

With this said, we're expecting to develop both remaining routes more or less side by side and we intend to debut the first of these in the not-too-distant future.

If you're curious about how far from 1.0 we are, the numbers following the first decimal point in our version number can be taken as a rough percentage of completion. We aim to try and keep this number representative of our progress and as of version 0.41, we believe a 41% figure to be accurate.

2) What is 'Tales from Woodcrest'? And what do you plan to do once 1.0 has been released?

Tales are a selection of variably-sized routes that must be unlocked by meeting certain conditions in the main story. These routes can occur before, during and after main story routes and many of them follow characters other than Adrian/The Protagonist. In most cases, relevant plot events will unlock the relevant tales - they typically will only require completion as opposed to any other complicated requirements to be unlocked.

The 'Tales' screen debuted in September '22 on Patreon holding the work in progress version of the newly remade introduction. Tales will also house legacy content (such as the old intro once the new intro has taken its place), but will primarily focus on new, original stories. Tales are our main focus following the 1.0 release of Sileo and make up the bulk of our long term plans to continue supporting Sileo. We're constantly coming up with new ones and have enough material already to keep us busy for many, many years to come. So long as there is still demand, we will continue expanding Sileo with these stories into the foreseeable future.

To give you more specific ideas of what kind of stories these generally will be, there are a number of 'Prequel' tales which deal with events prior to Adrian's arrival in Woodcrest. One for instance is set several years ago when Diego and Adrian were attending university together. Another is set roughly a decade and a half ago that explores the origins of The Black Claws, the relationships between it's members and how those changed as time progressed. There are a number of tales set after main routes as well. These typically take the form of expansions for the existing routes. So far, every main route has at least one planned with one currently having two! Finally, the bulk of the tales we have planned are set during the main routes. One example of this is a route told from Jay and Eric's perspective in Tai's timeline which explores how the events of that route impacts them and their friendship. Every route has several of these, and sometimes tales will lead to unlocking other tales as well.

3) When is the next update going to be released?

We currently operate on a rolling release model. There is no strict schedule for our releases, however we aim to release updates frequently. How frequently will depend on the scope of that particular update, this will vary from release to release. New content will be released to Patreon first, then to Itch.io after a couple of weeks or when a subsequent Patreon update is released.

4) What do Patreon Supporters get that everybody else doesn't?

The Patreon version of Sileo receives new content and feature updates ahead of the Public release. These will then be released to the public shortly after, usually with further polish, fixes and refinements worked in.

Our supporters on Patreon also receive an inside look at the development of Sileo with (often lengthy) progress reports and early sneak peeks. $8 Tier Patrons get high resolution artwork downloads, and $15 Patrons are listed in the credits! Our Patrons also receive access to the Patreon Lounge section of our Discord, get to enjoy a more hands-on involvement with the developers and even occasionally are given the opportunity to vote in polls that will help determine the future of Sileo!

Sileo is an absolutely massive undertaking, and it's only being made by 2 people! Both myself and CurryCatz who is Sileo's artist have left full time employment to pour all of ourselves into Sileo and ensure it has all of the time, love and attention it needs to thrive. Did you know that it's our primary source of income?! That means we depend on the support of our Patrons to keep Sileo moving forward. We make Sileo available for free because we want as many people to enjoy it as possible, but if you enjoyed your time with it, please consider supporting us on Patreon if you are able! We really appreciate it!

5) Will [character] get a route/sex scene?

As part of the forthcoming 'Tales from Woodcrest' mode (see FAQ number 2), we'll be working tirelessly to ensure your favorite hasubando will get the lovin' he deserves, no matter who he may be! Stay tuned! (edited)

6) What can I expect each new update to contain?

This will vary greatly, though we usually aim to release content updates with new playable story as frequently as possible. Occasionally we may release builds purely focused on features, fixes and improvements, though these will be more the exception rather than the rule.

7) Will Sileo ever be released on iOS, the Google Play Store or on other storefronts?

As of March 27th, 2023, Sileo is now available uncensored on iOS via sideload! Detailed instructions on how to install Sileo on your iPhone or iPad can be found here: https://xevvy.itch.io/sileo/devlog/508018/ios-detailed-installation-instructions

Also, as of the 20th of August 2022, a browser-based version of Sileo is playable for both our Public and Patreon channels!

With regards to the App Store and Google Play Store, versions released on these storefronts would likely require significant censorship to meet Apple and Google's guidelines. As Sileo is available on both of these platforms via sideloading, we are not currently pursuing releases on these storefronts, however, we may revisit this idea further into development.

Steam specifically is on our radar as they are significantly more accepting of NSFW content. We plan to release a Steam version of Sileo at some point, however, this will be later rather than sooner - every platform and storefront we support makes the process of releasing a new update that much more difficult, thus we intend to engage with Steam closer to the 1.0 release of Sileo.

8) Does Sileo contain any telemetry or report any of my data?

As of 0.41 (April 2022), Sileo no longer contains telemetry and as such collects no data.

9) What's the deal with side plots? Why are there so few of them?

Side plots are a feature we abandoned some time ago. We had hoped it would allow us to add small stories here and there whenever inspiration struck, however we ended up channeling this inspiration into our main routes instead. It was also challenging to create side plots that would fit with multiple routes as characters were otherwise engaged.

We plan to remove this system from the game in due course and integrate the relevant side plots into the main stories where applicable.

10) Old content used to have a lot of choices in it, but in new content, there's almost none. Why is that?

Ultimately it comes down to scale, manpower and creative version. We would rather tell a great story that is linear than a not-as-great story with a complex branching narrative. In general, we currently have a clear vision for the content we want to create and see no reason to make it needlessly complicated by sending it down contrived branching paths that don't ultimately support the story we want to tell. And branching routes are a lot more work to create. Sileo is written entirely by one person (that's me!) and progress would be positively glacial if I had to write different possibilities of different sequences with every update!

This is not to say we're ruling branching narratives and meaningful player agency out, however. We do plan to have content that will be like this once the main four routes are complete, however this content will be built specifically to be branching and will likely consist of shorter routes with multiple possible endings. Future main routes may see more agency and variety in their layout, but ultimately, this will only ever be done in service of the story - if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, simple as that.

11) Why does my antivirus program have a total meltdown when I download Sileo on Windows?

This is a known issue with games built in Ren'Py 7.4 and above. It is a false positive and can safely be ignored. Sileo builds downloaded from official sources like Itch and Patreon are safe to download. We recommend adding an exclusion to your antivirus software, or perhaps using a different antivirus software as not all of them have this problem.

12) I'm having problems with the game, or want to report a bug! Where do I go to get help?!

Our Discord channel is the best place! Use the #report-a-bug channel for Public Updates. There is a Patreon exclusive version of this channel available for issues with Patreon builds - make sure you've linked your Discord to your Patreon account to be granted access!

Alternatively, you may also contact us on Twitter (response times will vary as notifications for new message requests are highly unreliable!) or send us an email at Xevvy@Sileo.vn.

13) Is the Sileo team hiring?

We are not actively looking to expand our team at this time. If the right person turned up at the right time, it wouldn't be completely out of the question, but in general this is not something we are considering at present.

14) Will Sileo ever be translated to other languages?

At the time of writing (August 2022), official translations are not something we intend to consider until at least the 1.0 version of Sileo. The reason for this is that everything is currently subject to change and this makes maintaining translations a difficult task with a ton of overhead that could be avoided simply by waiting until the core content in the VN is more or less finalized.

With that said, we are open to unofficial third-party translations! If you are interested in translating Sileo to another language, please contact us via our Discord - we are happy to provide basic assistance with this process as long as certain guidelines are followed.

15) How many words of dialogue are there in Sileo?

The following statistics are accurate as of November 2023's Patreon Update (v0.58.)

According to lint: The game contains 31,117 dialogue blocks, containing 573,707 words and 3,126,416 characters, for an average of 18.4 words and 100 characters per block.

Diego's route accounts for approximately 120k of these words. Tai's Route accounts for the vast majority of what remains. Here is my statement on the length and overall content in Tai's Route.

16) Where can I find my save files? Are save files cross-platform?

Your saves can be found here...

Windows Saves: %APPDATA%/RenPy/Sileo - Tales of a New Dawn
Mac OS X Saves: ~/Library/RenPy/Sileo - Tales of a New Dawn
Linux Saves: ~/.renpy/Sileo - Tales of a New Dawn
Android Saves: Android/Data/com.werecat.sileo/files/saves/

On desktop platforms, an additional copy may be kept inside the game folder: /game/saves/

These save files are cross-platform and can be transferred between other platforms as you see fit.

To import these save files into the web version, add the "Sileo - Tales of a New Dawn" folder and its contents to a .zip file and select the import option after clicking the menu button in the top left of the window. The folder should be in the root of the zip, and the save files should be contained within. You can also export saves from the web version using this same menu.

Please be aware that your save files are stored as cookies in your browser and will be lost if you clear your cookies without first backing up your save files.

17) How many days will each route have?

The main routes of Sileo are planned to run for 20 days each, including the introduction section. There are expansions planned for every route in the form of Tales.

18) My game crashes on Day 11 of Tai's Route!

Disable Animated Sequences in the settings. This crash occurs because an animated sequence is starting and your device isn't able to handle it. This generally occurs on Android devices with insufficient (<3GB) memory. This will also work around the issue if the animated sequence runs too slowly.

19) I've downloaded the game on Android, but it won't let me install it.

This is usually caused by opening the .apk file via your downloads and is a known issue. It seemingly started between releases when no update to Sileo or our engine Ren'Py had been issued recently which suggests it may be something on Android's side. Regardless, you can work around this by using your File Manager to open the .apk file instead.

20) Why did my save pick up from an earlier position than what I saved?

This happens when our engine, Ren'Py, fails to load your save file due to being unable to locate the position you were at when you saved your game. Typically this is rare and may occur if the line in question has been removed in the new version. However, by the Ren'Py dev's own admission, Ren'Py is not built for games that are constantly being updated like ours (in spite of that being most games that run on Ren'Py...) and sometimes, the compatibility data Ren'Py creates as the internal scripts change accumulate issues that can only be fixed by removing those files and starting fresh. If we do this, most of your save files from previous versions will likely exhibit this behaviour, however saves created (or resaved) with the new version will work as intended. This is one of several methods we've implemented in Sileo to help ensure save files remain compatible in future versions. We don't have to do this often, and we'll note if this has happened in the update changelog which you can find collected on our Discord server or in a release announcement.

21) Who's the protagonist? Are they a self insert?

The protagonist is a husky named Adrian (by default). He has his own distinct personality and is not a self insert. He can be seen in the character portrait (as of version 0.40), in the gallery, and sometimes even in third person! In the "Tales from Woodcrest" mode, many of these stories will be experienced from a different character's perspective and thus Adrian may appear as a character in these sequences.

The below screenshot is taken from one of the first appearances of Adrian as seen from Axel's perspective. This takes place on Day 16 of Tai's Route.

22) What does "Sileo" mean?

"Sileo" is a Latin word that loosely translates to "Restart". This has a dual meaning in the context of our visual novel, both referring to protagonist Adrian escaping his old life and starting over somewhere brand new, as well as referencing the "restart" of development in 2020 two months or so before the game released to the public. Originally, Sileo was a visual novel prototype named "The Village That Never Sleeps" which was released by Xevvy in 2013 with a different team. Unfortunately, development did not progress far beyond this initial prototype and development ceased shortly after. In 2020, Xevvy met CurryCatz who shared his vision for a VN and the two teamed up with the intention of creating a VN with "The Village That Never Sleeps" as a basis. At this time, development was started anew using no assets or code from the prototype. The name "Sileo" was chosen to represent this new incarnation of this project both with respect to this fresh start as well as Adrian's very own.

(+2)

he dummy thicc

(+1)

thank you for making him like that

Wait so even if we choose the wrong answer the route will still be normal.

In general, choices will usually offer different dialogue and will be referenced on occasion. Most of them however, at least in Diegos route do not massively change the plot. This may change in other routes.

"Axel and Dom's Route (Cheetah & Fox)" Why are they together? Will it be a three-way relationship?

(+14)

Their route is intended to be polyamorous, yes.

(+9)

First time encountering a poly route in a visual novel yet I'm excited for it!

(+9)

Wait. Y'all actually giving us a poly route? Bless.

(+6)

That's the plan! It's always been our intention to steer away from straight forward romantic stories and instead approach more challenging ideas that are less common in the genre. Every route has it's own theme. Some are fairly obvious, like how Axel and Dom have always been pitched as a combined route. Some are less obvious, like how Diego's theme only really becomes clear towards the end of his route. But every route has something.
