RE: Loading Problems with 0.27

Just a quick check in to let you know we're aware of the issues some people are having loading save files in 0.27. Interestingly, this is not relating to any of our changes to the save system... actually, there's no reason it should be happening at all and we've exhausted all of the possibilities trying to figure out just why it isn't working. Usually, this behavior happens because the script has changed in a big way, but almost nothing has changed since 0.25... Right now, I'm just chalking it up as Ren'Py being Ren'Py, issues like this are surprisingly common among Ren'Py games and sadly, it looks like it's our turn!

I'm currently pushing some experimental builds which attempt to work around the problem by marrying some features from 0.30 together with some new tricks specifically targeting this problem. It's still a work in progress but I'm hoping to push this feature alongside a few other fixes as part of a 0.27a update coming soon. We'd really appreciate if you could take these experimental builds for a spin and let us know if they've worked for you.

In terms of how the current workaround works, it's triggered when Ren'Py fails to load a save file and runs code from there. When this happens, all Ren'Py has lost is your location in the story, not your other data, so all that we need to do is figure out where to resume from. As of 0.26, we started including compatibility data in the save files. We didn't expect to start using this until 0.30 but hey, why not? If your save was last created with 0.26, we will restart you from the latest checkpoint if a checkpoint is present in the save data - you will have had to pass a new checkpoint in 0.26 before saving your game for this to register. Checkpoints in 0.2X and earlier versions of Sileo are a bit inconsistent so how much progress you'll lose will vary, however there are several checkpoints at least in every ingame day, so it shouldn't be much. If your save is from a previous version of Sileo predating 0.26 or if no checkpoint data is present, you will simply start the day over. Everything else should be in tact fingers crossed. 

Anyway, we'll push 0.27a as soon as we're satisfied it actually works. Until such a time, please check in with us on Discord if you're having problems - the more people who can help us out, the quicker we can get this fixed!
